Frank Shepard Fairey *usually goes by just Shepard Fairey* is a legend in the street art scene. From his meager beginnings from Rhode Island School of Design, influenced by the John Carpenter film “They Live” and Marshall McLuhan; his “Obey Giant” sticker campaign has become a global phenomenon. His art work is often overtly political and often his whole operation of marketing his art seems very contradictive to the very message he is sending out with his art work. However his impact cannot be denied hailed as one of the most influential artist of the 21st century and his text “The Philosophy of Obey” details his ideas and thoughts on the meaning of the art he has created. His work can most recently and readily been seen in the HOPE poster created for the Obama campaign, the new “Rock the Vote” poster, and recently teamed up with Upper Deck to create a Kobe Bryant MVP card. I myself have become a fan of his art work and would suggest anyone to take a close look and tell me what you see… ~R. Esquire
