Unbound Resolution

On the July 29. 2008 the House of Represenatives, lead by Democratic Represenative of Tennesse Steve Cohen; gave a NONBINDING resolution apologizeing for slavery and the cruelty, brutality, inhumanity, and injustice of the Jim Crowe Era. The Represenatives acknowledge that the negative effects are felt to the current day stemming from slavery which involve tangible and intangible damages. All of this is of importance because it is the first time that a federal branch of the government has issued an apology. With that being said I believe out of everything said in this apology nonbinding is the most important word. I feel it is wonderful for the government to formally give acknowledgement to the masses who suffered during a horrible period of United States history. However to give an unbinding apology to those you held bound and exploited seems ironic. On the other hand I can think nothing more American, to try to get the most for free. From free labor to being exonerated from crime free of responsibility. Perhaps it is merely a formality but i suppose we will all have to wait and see if anything develops from this unbound reolution.
